Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative was released today after months of anticipation. The game is a fan-created mod that takes the portal out of Portal 2’s famous gun.Instead, your gun fires the various experimental gels that were used in certain parts of Portal 2. This isn’t a simple weapon swap though, 27 new levels were created as well as a completely original story.
Since the game is a mod and not a standalone title, you will need to own Portal 2and have it installed on your computer for the game to work. Aperture Tag was approved via the Steam Greenlight program, and is exclusively available on Valve’s Steam service for PC. To celebrate the launch, Aperture Tag is currently available for 30% off until July 22nd. Check out the trailer above to see the game in action, and read the developer’s description of the game below for more information:
“Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Initiative is a mod for Portal 2, inspired by TAG! The Power of Paint. The familiar Portal 2 gels are now contained within the Aperture Science Paint Gun Device and it’s your job to test it out!
Featuring a new personality-core and an original story with 27 polished levels; the mod offers an exciting and fun experience in varied and interesting new locations throughout Aperture Science.
Introducing gels as the core gameplay mechanic completely changes the way you solve puzzles, explore, and survive all the challenges thrown at you!”
Aperture Tag also features Steam Trading Cards, a full developer commentary, and an original soundtrack produced by Abarax, Harry101UK, and Christopher McEvoy. Additionally, users will be able to create their own mods of this mod via the in-game level editor, and workshop integration.

Aperture Tag Overview
Aperture Tag Free Download for PC is a 2014 first-person puzzle-platform video game developed by the Aperture Tag Team. Originally made as a modification of the Valve Corporation's Portal series, it was officially approved for sale by Valve and released on the software distribution platform Steam on July 15, 2014. The game lacks the iconic portal gun of the series and instead utilizes a newly created paint gun that fires two kinds of gel with different properties. The game features new characters and voice acting, along with twenty-seven levels and a co-op mode that also includes a level editor.

Aperture Tag Walkthrough
Eugenio Roman, the original organizer of the Aperture Tag Team, first began considering paint gun and gel concepts before the Portal 2 game was released and when the gel components of the game were announced. It was stated that the concept of paint for Portal 2 was first derived from the game Tag: The Power of Paint, whose team was hired to work on the paint aspects of Portal 2. After playing this precursor, Roman wanted to do more with the aspects of the game, especially the paint gun. The paint gun he ended up using for Aperture Tag was developed by another modder in the community. Roman asked the creator if he could use the device, was approved to do so, and made some modifications before releasing his own map utilizing it. Aperture Tag Download free Full Version.

Mods, eh? The fun, free way to extend and/or fix your games. But what's this? Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative looks like a mod, behaves like a mod, and even has the word 'MOD' in the corner of its Steam icon . The difference: it's not priced like a mod. This premium package offers a new campaign for Portal 2—one that does away with portals entirely, in favour of puzzles centred around the base game's gels.
Portal 2 Aperture Tag
A recent trailer provides a brief glimpse at this janitorial nightmare:
'Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Initiative is a mod for Portal 2, inspired by TAG! The Power of Paint,' explains the mod's store page . 'The familiar Portal 2 gels are now contained within the Aperture Science Paint Gun Device and it's your job to test it out!' The mod offers 27 levels, original voice acting, and an in-game editor and Steam Workshop support. Mod or not, it's a nicely sized chunk of game.
And yes, it costs £5/$7—although there's also a 30% discount for the first week. People will inevitably have feelings about whether mods should charge for content, but, given the shift towards easy-to-use game creation platforms, it does make sense. The modding scene is in a different place now, partly because it's so easy for game creators to pursue their own projects in Unity or GameMaker. If paid-for mods do catch on, it could not only tempt more people back into creating cool new things for existing games, but might also encourage those attempting more ambitious mod projects to actually finish them.
On the other hand, free stuff is great, and the possibility of a healthy amount of free, additional content is sometimes part of a PC game's initial appeal. Ultimately, it comes down to the individual game creators to say whether they're okay with people making money from their game. For Valve, in this instance, the answer is yes—but likely that's decided on a case-by-case basis. Aperture Tag's premium release does feel somewhat significant, but it may not have that great an impact on modding as a whole.
